I was to design a birdhouse for a North American bird (small) that would be sent flat in a regular USPS envelope to clients of “X”. My “clients” in this project are mothers who are expecting a baby and belong to a private prenatal women’s hospital and childcare center – so I made up a concept where the design is an egg-shaped whole (like an egg – like a baby bump).
I wanted to design something very simple and beautiful. My inspiration was the beauty of natural forms, such like the egg shape, and simplicity of nature. My focus in this project was the relationship of the birdhouse to its environment. The 9 strip modules are very easy to snap together. They are to designed to lock. There are no unnecessary buttons or straps. The center piece holds the shape and will attach it to the tree.
In the research I found that birdhouses are to be appropriate to their environment in coloring and material. No paints are to be used, since birds tent to keep away from bright colors. Reds and whites are preferred by some species. I chose natural material, a very thin plywood that is uncoated but still weather proof and easy to flatten and bent.

This is quite beautiful. I am quite curious to see this in person!
